My husband's is from Western North Carolina Mountains (Newland, NC) and everything is a disaster.
The town has flooded, roads are eroded and mudslides. His parents live on a tall hill along a mountain so while they did have trees down, they didn't experience flooding at their home but the road to their home is washed out and mudslides. His family lives all around (across the road, down the road, family land) just think hillbilly.. LOL. Anyways, his brother Eric couldn't get to his parents down the road without using a tractor to move a culvert back to divert water that had been dislocated by the storm.
Rivers are everywhere down there which is a big cause of so much flooding. There are families that we call "river people" because they live along the river and I cannot imagine what has happened to their homes.
They don't expect to be able to their road to their homes to be repaired for a month. We have so much friends and family there that were hit hard (Spruce Pine, Linville, Plumtree, etc)
They are all without power. Greg has two younger siblings and his sister Monica, married, they've not heard from or been able to go check on her/husband so they dont know how they are. We expect they are fine but again, its just hard not hearing from your family. So much of NC was hit hard and his Aunt is in Asheville where it also. We are in Georgia so a lot in lower part of GA is suffering as well. I-40 and I-26 to NC is not passible. If you follow me on facebook you can see some video of damage I posted.
The storm was supposed to hit us directly and it turned and we were spared by God's grace!
Gregs parents are Carl and Nancy Wright, their health is not the best and we ask for continued prayer. They have a generator but again, needing gas and stuff not sure how long that will last.
Thanks everyone
Hugs
Jen
Praying for your family Jen
Gregs brother has been able to run to Johnson City to get gas for his parents generator and since they have Skylink, neighbors have come to use internet and contact families. Also Eric (gregs brother) said that the only gas station Exxon is only allowing payment with the Exxon Credit Card and won't take cash or regular credit cards so people are fighting at the pumps. I do not understand how in this crisis, Exxon can be so selfish. Please pray continue to pray and see if there is a way you can help. I have several people I can hook you up with that we know personally to help. Also my church is filling up containers and going to Carolinas, Augusta and South GA. to help and deliver. Samaritans Purse (My husband used to work for Franklin Graham there in Boone) has made a make-shift hospital in parking lot in Linville, which is a town practically next to his parents road to their house thats destroyed.
Please feel free to reach out to me on ways you can help that I can connect you with our friends.
