Both my parents lived through WWII. I remember them both as pack rats. If you could maybe, possibly use something again, they would save it.

•Balls of used rubber bands
•A drawer filled with already used aluminum foil and waxed paper.
•Jars
•A closet full of Tupperware/Cool whip Tubs
I got out of the habit in the last two down sizing moves but now I reconsider before throwing anything away. I already have a ziplock baggie full of rubber bands that come on green onions.
I still hear them saying "Waste not, want not" well, a bit different in German
