Something I've been mulling over. I have not ever thought much about David's childhood at home. His brothers were older, his dad had him tending the sheep, which was not a highly sought after career. His brothers did not treat him with respect and his dad left him to himself out in the fields. David learned to be brave and depend on himself which put him in many a difficult position in life. David seemed to be the same passive parent to his older children, which ruined them as well. Yet, with young Solomon, it seems as if David, even in his infirmity, finally STOOD UP for his son, and directed young Solomon in the way he should go. In our devo today we saw Solomon's first act as King, was one of mercy. It took a lifetime, but we can see what God said about David...that David is a man after God's own heart.
We may fail, many times, but in the end, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we will hear..."Well done, good and faithful servant."
